It’s been four months since 2015: Day to Day was established as a daily outlet for my writing. Since then,
as promised, there has been a daily post, usually short enough to keep your
attention for a few minutes. Obviously the topics have varied: some sports,
some politics, some food reviews, and some other stuff. Responses have been limited, usually to those who take exception to my opinion. Some readers suggest better facts be used. Good idea, but this is not a news outlet; it's an opinion page where like most newspaper editorial pages, specific facts are not necessary to form an opinion. Editorial writers are notorious for twisting facts to present their opinions and for leaving out facts that would discredit their opinions.
2015: Day to Day is a chance to present theory, opinion and ideas. It's also a chance to use facts (when desired) to make a point such as the most popular post thus far, a comparison of salaries of the athletics director, the head football coach and the head basketball coach with other "academic" officials at NC State University. In reality, the athletics versus academic salaries at NC State are mild when compared to those at most major colleges, especially the football factories in the Southeastern and Big Ten conferences and the basketball factories in the Atlantic Coast Conference, especially one nearby where the head coach is paid more than $6 million a year, far beyond the amount paid to the school President or the head of the medical center there. You probably could add the salaries of every school dean there along with all the executive officers and many of the other head sports coaches and not come close to what that one head coach makes. Now that school, a fine academic institution, has its priorities just right, hah, hah!
